Retrofitting

This post is similar to the last one in that I've revisiting older projects with a new eye to the art style. The difference being these are all projects I've developed to differing degrees but never actually made into comics. It's fun to break out these old ideas and re-imagine them stylistically. It's like putting a new coat of paint on an old house.

Reeee-Mix!

More cartoony stuff from the ol' sketch pile. Looking for something to doodle, I decided to revisit characters I've already done in comics except to imagine them in my more cartoony style. The above are obviously characters from the "Damnedverse". I'm especially fond of the Verlochin in the bottom right corner.
Below are drawings of characters from Three Strikes(Oni Press), Skinwalker(Oni), and Hard Time (DC). Most of the characters are from Hard Time. As I got into drawing them I was reminded how much of an ensemble book that really was. There are several characters I didn't even get around to drawing.
Also, that guy at the bottom center of the page is supposed to be young Crocker from Queen & Country: Declassified.

Ninja Practice

I do all my sketching on regular bond paper nowadays and keep those drawings in 3-ring office binders. If I get enough sketches revolving around a particular story idea I collect them from my sketch binder and move them into their very own binder.
The binder these drawings come from is called "Ninja Island". That may or may not be a working title.

Summers Lovin'

One more super-hero doodle before the weekend. Feeling a bit nostalgic and I drew some of the X-Men of my youth. Fun fact: The collection of the Dark Phoenix saga was the first trade I ever bought. I was 10 years old and the ending almost made me cry. I was hooked.

More Supes For You

Some more super heroes from my late night doodles. I had a lot of fun just laying in uncomplicated, flat colors on the characters. No painterly strokes, no gradients, no shadows and sculpting. Keep it simple.
The Captain Marvel one is my favorite so far.

I Know, I Know...

...it's been a long time since I posted. Nothing exciting or dramatic to report--I've just been very, very busy. Because I've been so busy I've had no time to do commissions lately and the only drawing I've done has been work related and in each case it's stuff I can't really share. That's left me with nothing to put up here. Because my output isn't going to change much over the next few months I'm going to shift gears and start posting more fun and cartoony skethbook stuff (like what you see here). I love just doing these little exercises every now and then (usually in bed before lights out) and I'm going to start posting much more of this time stuff.

Kooky Bayou

Been busy, busy, busy. I had meant to post these images for a couple weeks now but I've only just now found the time. I really like both of these, although I will admit that the Madman piece gave me a headache. I just couldn't figure out the right composition for the piece. I ended up drawing the thing in it's entirety three times before settling on this one. The other two would have been fine drawings but I'm glad I pushed through the mental block because this one really captures best what I was going for. The Swamp Thing was just a blast to do. I love drawing "monsters"!
