I Know, I Know...

...it's been a long time since I posted. Nothing exciting or dramatic to report--I've just been very, very busy. Because I've been so busy I've had no time to do commissions lately and the only drawing I've done has been work related and in each case it's stuff I can't really share. That's left me with nothing to put up here. Because my output isn't going to change much over the next few months I'm going to shift gears and start posting more fun and cartoony skethbook stuff (like what you see here). I love just doing these little exercises every now and then (usually in bed before lights out) and I'm going to start posting much more of this time stuff.
I hope you enjoy!

Kooky Bayou

Been busy, busy, busy. I had meant to post these images for a couple weeks now but I've only just now found the time. I really like both of these, although I will admit that the Madman piece gave me a headache. I just couldn't figure out the right composition for the piece. I ended up drawing the thing in it's entirety three times before settling on this one. The other two would have been fine drawings but I'm glad I pushed through the mental block because this one really captures best what I was going for. The Swamp Thing was just a blast to do. I love drawing "monsters"!
Plus, he's 100% organic so he's good for you.

Old Soldiers Never Die...

Can't stay long--I've got a lot of work to do! Just wanted to drop in to share this recent commission I did. It's no secret that I've been a big fan of Epting and Brubaker's run on Captain America. So to get the opportunity to do this commemoration piece was a blast.
Hope you like it!

On Comet, On Beppo, On Krypto, On Streaky...

Now before any purists get on my case about Ace the Bat-Hound being in the Legion of Super-Pets let me point out that the guy who commissioned this piece created a work around. He wanted Ace but he also wanted to be true to super animal continuity so...this Ace is actually Legion of Super-Pets member, the shape-shifting, Proty II! Clever right? Anyway, I hope it shows in this piece that I had a blast drawing this. I had a couple friends who said it sounded like a nightmare assignment (animals can be hard to draw) but I was excited about the challenge.
I hope you all like it!

Damned Again

(click-it to enlarge-it)

This is a couple months old at this point but I thought I'd share it anyway. This is the first cover to the 3-issue follow up to the Damned, subtitled Prodigal Sons. As the hand in the lower right indicates, this cover is not just an example of poor composition but it's also the first image in a triptych (all three covers form one big image). Keep an eye out for this book--it hits sometime in March.

Queen Jeopardy

Sasha Bordeaux and August General in Iron (what a cool name). This was a fun commission and as a bonus it got me to pick up the first trade to Checkmate--DC Comic's version of Queen & Country. I was pleasantly surprised--don't know why, Greg Rucka usually delivers the goods. Anyway, enjoy! More soon...

About Time

It's been a crazy month. Just wrapped up duties on the upcoming Jumper:Jumpscars TPB from Oni (see the 22 page preview here--scroll down a bit). After seeing the above image my friends asked me to clarify that it wasn't called Jumper:Jumps Cars. They're very funny...
Like everyone else I also had the holidays to contend with. Fortunately, that included a well deserved vacation with my immediate family in a cabin in the Smokey Mountains. Nice and relaxing. And this past week I've been in the process of moving into a new apartment. Just got the internet up and running here so I don't have to rely on the wi-fi at the local cafe.
Anyway, below is a commish I did before the holidays that I'm finally getting around to posting. I have a couple more posts coming over the next week or so and then maybe we can get back on track.
Here's to 2008!
